The products included in this deal are Vermont Natural Coatings PolyWhey and EasyWhey products. PolyWhey is eco-friendly waterbased floor finish, while EasyWhey is an eco-friendly floor color product.
The Benefits of PolyWhey and EasyWhey
PolyWhey is waterbased, eco-friendly floor finish. Although it is waterbased and therefore contains lower VOCs than traditional oil-based finishes, these finishes are extremely durable. There is a unique formula for residential floors, commercial floors, and sports floors.
PolyWhey 2500 is intended for use on residential and commercial floors with light traffic. PolyWhey 3500 is recommended for commercial settings and residential floors with heavy traffic, and PolyWhey MVP is formulated with added durability for use on sports floors.
You will find the typical options of matte, satin, semi-gloss, and gloss as options when choosing a PolyWhey finish, allowing you to use these finishes for a variety of projects.
Another benefit of PolyWhey is that it is quick to cure. It fully cures within one week and provides a cure that is hard and durable.
As for the options that come with EasyWhey waterbased floor color, you can choose between oak, cherry, walnut, gray, white wash, and ebony, each of which provides a rich, even color. EasyWhey can be used to color prefinished floors and to color more difficult species like maple and pine without blotchiness.
What’s in a Name? The Origins of PolyWhey and Vermont Natural Coatings
In 2015, we interviewed Vermont Natural Coatings founder and owner, Andrew Meyer, about the origins and mission of his company.
Andrew’s original goal when founding Vermont Natural Coatings was to incorporate whey protein into wood coating products, and thus PolyWhey was created. PolyWhey finish uses whey protein rather than harsh chemicals as its bonding agent.
But why is whey protein in particular the defining ingredient in these products? Andrew saw that the cheesemaking process used by the large dairy industry in his home state of Vermont created a lot of whey byproduct that generally went unused, and saw a huge opportunity to incorporate this wasted byproduct into wood coatings products.
Andrew’s mission was not just to find a use for the byproduct of the cheesemaking process. He also wanted to create wood coatings products that were sustainable and eco-friendly.
The composition of PolyWhey and EasyWhey and even the containers for these products speak volumes about the company’s commitment to sustainability. Vermont Natural Coatings PolyWhey meets the requirements regarding VOCs in California, which has the most stringent laws and regulations regarding VOCs in the country.
The entire PolyWhey container, including the cap, is made of 100% recycled materials and is 100% recyclable. The fact that this is a single-component product and has a shelf life of one year after opening also helps to create less waste.
