This course will provide an excellent opportunity for wood floor contractors who would like to increase their professionalism by testing and receiving an NWFA certification. Holding a NWFACP Sand & Finish certification will give you insight into proper procedures and techniques, and will lend you more credibility in the eyes of potential customers.
The NWFA Intermediate Sand & Finish course is a three-day event which gives contractors hands-on
experience in a variety of essential skills, including sanding multiple floor types and a variety of species, minimizing scratch patterns, and equipment maintenance. Contractors will gain valuable experience in installing engineered, factory-finished, and multidirectional flooring. The finishing side of the course will cover the application of stains, sealers, natural oils, finishes, repairs, board replacements, recoat applications, final coat applications, and more.
Course and Testing Prerequisites
The prerequisites for this course include a minimum of one year of sand and finish experience, or attendance of the Basic Sand and Finish School or Principles of Wood Flooring, plus completion of the NWFA University Sand & Finish Safety Course.
Installation Certification testing will be available on Friday, April 27th, and will also take place at our King of Prussia headquarters. The prerequisites for this test include:
o Member of NWFA in good standing
o Minimum of 3 years’ experience in sanding and finishing of wood flooring
o Successful completion of NWFA Intermediate Sand & Finish or above level training
o Completion of NWFA University courses in sand & finish
The hands-on test is designed to demonstrate technical mastery of the following wood flooring installation skills:
o Rough sanding unfinished strip flooring
o Finish sanding and applying stain coat
o Apply seal coat
o Prepare and final coat a prefinished or previously finished strip floor
All tools and supplies will be provided for the test.
Contractors will receive three continuing certification units upon completion. Completion of this course will also qualify attendees for the NWFA Advanced Finish course. Completion of this course along with the Intermediate Installation course qualifies contractors for the Master Craftsman course, and the Inspector school.
