Earlier this month, City Floor Supply’s King of Prussia headquarters hosted the NWFA Intermediate Installation Training + Certification Testing, a three-day hands-on course that drew hardwood flooring pros looking to level up their craft. Running Tuesday, April 7th through Friday, April 10th, the training covered everything from jobsite prep and wood science to nail-down, glue-down, and floating installations, plus repair techniques and design elements like patterned floors. Attendees ready to take the next step capped off the week with NWFA Certification Testing on the final day.
It was a packed week of learning, problem-solving, and connecting with other installers who are serious about their work, and judging by the conversations on the floor, it delivered on every front.
A Truly International Turnout
One of the things that stood out about this training was just how far some attendees traveled to be here. We had installers come in from across the country, and even one who flew in from the United Kingdom specifically for this course. The NWFA’s reputation as the premier organization dedicated to wood flooring draws people from well beyond our region, and it’s always rewarding to see King of Prussia serve as a destination for serious pros looking to advance their craft.
Why Formal Training Still Matters, Even for Seasoned Pros
One of the things we love about the NWFA curriculum is how it benefits installers at every stage of their career. Whether you’re a few years into the trade or have been laying floors for decades, a structured course gives you the chance to stress-test your own habits against a formal standard — to find the gaps, catch the small mistakes, and pick up techniques you haven’t been exposed to. That mindset of always refining, always sharpening, is what separates the good installers from the great ones.
Attendees told us that they walked away with new approaches they plan to fold into their day-to-day operations. It’s a great reminder that no matter how long you’ve been in the trade, there’s always something worth learning from a hands-on course.
Certification as a Business Tool
For installers thinking about certification as a career move, it’s worth emphasizing how NWFA credentials translate into real-world business growth. Displaying certification badges on your website and marketing materials gives customers and general contractors an immediate signal of credibility, and that credibility opens doors to higher-end jobs and more discerning clients.
That’s exactly what these credentials are designed to do: back up your craft with a recognized, respected standard.
Thank You to Our Attendees and the NWFA
A huge thank you to every installer who made the trip out to King of Prussia, to the instructors who brought their deep expertise and patience to every station, and to everyone who sat for certification testing. Weeks like this are a reminder of how much talent and dedication exists in this trade.
