City Floor Supply is sad to announce the passing of Edward P. Glavin. He was more than a father to Mike, Mary, Joe and Maurice, he was their mentor and rock.
A working man and veteran of the Korean War, Ed was a true believer that all men and women deserve a chance to learn and become successful.
He was proud to be a long-time machinist for the Westinghouse Corporation. Not one to sit idle, Ed studied in night school for 9 years and became a teacher at Dobbins Vocational High School in North Philadelphia where he taught for 20 years.
He was present the day we opened for business as the Philadelphia FloorStore and never left us even as we transitioned to City Floor Supply. Ed worked on all sanding machines making custom parts and helping us build a one of a kind repair center for the hardwood floor industry.
He loved our customers, our vendors and our team. He was our biggest fan and he savored the fact that his children were living the American dream. To his last days he’d say “How is the business?” “How is the fire recovery going?” He was a “Man for all seasons.”

To the Glavin Family, I was sorry to hear that your Dad has passed away. I always enjoyed chatting with him when I went to the shop. I am sure he will live on forever in your heart & memories. Regards, Steve Skolnick
