HyperGrinder I-4 Wood Planetary Sander: Features, Benefits, and Best Uses

Some jobs call for more than a buffer and less than a big machine. Think intercoat abrasion over a large open floor, oiling and buffing, or flattening and finish sanding where you want an even scratch pattern from wall to wall. That’s what a planetary sander is built for. We now carry the HyperGrinder I-4 Wood Variable Speed 16″ Sanding Machine and Buffer, a four-head, counter-rotating planetary machine, along with the HyperGrinder accessories that get the most out of it.

What Is the HyperGrinder I-4 Wood?

The I-4 Wood is a multi-purpose planetary sander with four counter-rotating heads. HyperGrinder designed it for sanding, oiling, brushing, and finishing wood and parquet floors. With the right accessories it can also prep and sand concrete, remove adhesives and resins, and work on mixed surfaces.

Because the heads counter-rotate, the machine stays balanced and doesn’t pull in one direction. You can sand in any direction with less effort than a single-disc buffer, and you get a more consistent finish across the floor.

Key Features

Variable Speed for More Control

The variable-speed I-4 Wood runs at a motor speed of 120 to 200 rpm and a planetary speed of 500 to 1,000 rpm, according to HyperGrinder. Slow it down for oiling, buffing, and brushing. Bring it up when you need cutting power for sanding or flattening. It comes with a 3.5 or 4 HP motor.

Four Counter-Rotating Heads with Adjustable Wheels

Four heads cover a 430 mm (about 16.9″) working width. HyperGrinder lists the tool size as 4 x 140 mm or 4 x 150 mm, and CFS lists the machine with four 6″ heads. Height-adjustable wheels help you dial in flatness and finish quality. The adjustable wheel trolley also lets you lower the wheels for grinding or raise them for mono-brush work.

Quick-Change Planetary System

The planetary system detaches quickly, so you can switch between drivers, brushes, and mono-brush accessories without a long changeover. One machine can move from sanding to oiling to buffing on the same job.

Built to Transport and Built to Last

The I-4 Wood has a compact body and a handle that folds 90° for loading and transport. A foldable front handle on the base makes lifting easier, and 300 mm non-marking white wheels roll without scuffing finished floors. Inside, HyperGrinder uses an all-steel reducer with helical gears, tool holder plates with 20 mm C40 steel shafts, and oversized planetary bearings. All of it sits on an aluminium base. The handle angle adjusts micrometrically, not with a ratchet, so you can set it exactly where you want it.

Dust Control and Power for Accessories

A vacuum connection is built into the aluminium base, and an elastic bristled dust hood helps contain dust at the heads. The machine also has an on-board socket for accessories such as a vacuum or LED light. Pair it with a dedicated extractor like the one in our Mirka Dust Extractor 1230 post for a cleaner jobsite.

Best Uses for Hardwood Floor Contractors

  • Finish sanding and flattening after the big machine, for a uniform scratch pattern
  • Intercoat abrasion between finish coats on large open areas
  • Applying and buffing in hardwax oils and other oil finishes
  • Brushing wood floors for texture
  • Sanding parquet and other multi-directional patterns where grain direction changes
  • Removing adhesives and resins during floor prep
  • Prepping and sanding concrete subfloors before installation (with the right tooling)

HyperGrinder Accessories at City Floor Supply

CFS stocks these accessories for the HyperGrinder I-4 Wood:

  • Hyper Grinder LED Halo Light: A circular LED kit that mounts on the base of the machine and lights the whole work area from every direction, so you can spot scratches and missed areas as you work. It can sit under or above the additional weights.
  • Hyper Grinder Mounted Weight: Adds weight to the machine for more aggressive cutting. The I-4 Wood takes up to three optional stackable weights of 6.5 kg (about 14.3 lb) each. They seat on two pins so they sit tight without vibration.
  • Hyper Grinder Extra Weight: An additional stackable 6.5 kg weight. Add weights to bite into tougher sanding work, or leave them off for lighter buffing and oiling.
  • Hyper Grinder Interface Pad (pack of 4): 10 mm soft foam interface pads with male/female hook-and-loop faces. They give your abrasives a gentler, more forgiving contact with wood surfaces, and they’re a good fit for finish sanding and intercoat work.

Is the HyperGrinder I-4 Wood Right for Your Business?

If you’re doing more oil finishes, more large open floors, or more parquet and pattern work, a planetary sander can save time on every job and make your final results more consistent. The I-4 Wood gives you variable speed, quick accessory changes, and a build that’s made for daily use. It also folds down compact enough to fit in the van.
