Wakol PU-280 Moisture Barrier does three things: it primes, solidifies, and blocks moisture.

This makes it perfect for installing engineered hardwood floors in below-grade environments such as basements, etc. which are becoming more common as homeowners are trying to increase the amount of livable space in their homes.

Wakol PU 280 Moisture Barrier is a premium moisture barrier for “green” concrete slabs and for concrete and offers two levels of moisture protection. Durable, polyurethane-based sealant assures reliable, lasting protection and minimizes the potential for cracking.

This moisture barrier protects and seals concrete slabs against water penetration, which can cause mold, mildew, and warping and other issues in a hardwood floor installed over it.

No mixing required, this product is fast curing, easy to apply, and offers excellent coverage.

One coat will block moisture up to 12 lbs. / 1000 sq.ft. / 24 hours or up to 90 % rH. Two coats will block moisture up to 18 lbs. / 1000 sq.ft. / 24 hours or up to 98 % rH.

In order for this product to work, the concrete must be surface dry, at least 28 days old, a surface temperature of ≥60°F, and must have an intact structural waterproofing membrane beneath the slab.

How to apply Wakol PU-280 Moisture Barrier to a concrete subfloor

Step 1: Prep the subfloor.

Step 2: Vacuum-clean the subfloor.

Step 3. Shake the product well before use and apply it to the floor using a primer roller or foam roller. Avoid forming puddles.

Step 4. If using this product as a moisture barrier, apply the second coat using a criss-cross method over the first layer.

Step 5. Let it dry for approximately 40 – 50 minutes.

Step 6. You can apply the WAKOL MS Adhesive directly to this and then continue on with your hardwood floor installation.

Step 7. Optional – if you have to level the floor, apply primer after applying Wakol PU-280, let it dry for 30 – 60 minutes, then apply the leveling compound. Finally, install a floor covering and continue on with your install.
