Why use Zinsser?
Unlike other shellac products, Zinsser SealCoat Universal Shellac is compatible with all clear wood finishes, so if your floor has been previously finished with something else, you don’t have to worry about adhesion issues. Can be used as a pre-stain conditioner for pine and softwoods. Can be used as a bond coat under new finishes and adheres to any existing finish. SealCoat Universal Sanding Sealer Seals all types of wood surfaces including oak, maple, chestnut, mahogany, walnut, birch, poplar, cherry, etc. This is a great product for sealing ALL interior wood, not just hardwood floors.
This product dries lightning fast – can be sanded & recoated in minutes, and does not darken or yellow with age. Gives extra beauty & warmth to water-based polyurethanes.
Clean up is easy with alcohol or ammonia and water.
This is recommended for interior woodwork, including paneling, molding, trim, windows, doors, cabinets, furniture, and toys. SealCoat is great for wood floors – most floor finishing jobs can be completed in just one day. It’s the perfect sealer for acrylic finishes because it brings out the natural beauty of wood but will not turn yellow with age.
Why shellac?
Shellac is non-toxic and has a very low VOC content. It is available in “dewaxed” form from a variety of manufacturers. Shellac is not easy to apply. Shellac doesn’t require buffing between coats and dries very quickly. However, it’s not as durable as polyurethane finishes, and it’s vulnerable to damage from water, alcohol, and ammonia.
