We had a great time at the NWFA Intermediate Installation Course that took place from March 29th – 31st, led by Jason Elquest of Blackhawk Floors. We had a total of 17 attendees and they all did excellent work!
During this course, among other skills, the students learned how to complete a mathematically sound floor layout, how to do custom inlays and patterns like herringbone, how to install a drop-in vent, how to complete board repairs, how to use self-leveling underlayment, and general installation tips and tricks. The students completed a total of five panels. See below!

This 3-day course includes in depth training on general equipment maintenance, sanding multiple flooring types, including a variety of species, unfinished, factory finished, engineered, and multi-directional flooring. The attendee will learn the art of flattening a floor, minimizing the scratch patterns and efficient use of the equipment. On the finishing side, the attendee will learn about and practice with stain application, sealers, natural oils, waxes, colorants, reactive conditioners, finish application, scraping, repairs, board replacement, recoats, and final coat application.
Pricing: $649 per person for NWFA Members or $749 for Non-Members.
Prerequisites: 1 year of sand & finish experience OR attendance at Basic Sand & Finish hands-on training, plus completion of the NWFA University Sand & Finish Safety course.
